Thank you for visiting our rescue. We specialize in and are passionate about Mini Donkeys and Mini Horses.

Where do the minis come from?

Most to all of our animals come from kills pens or slaughter sale barns in the Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Louisiana regions. Some end up there because they are pasture pets and the rancher needs money, some might be unhandled from birth, or some are just rotated from one sale to the next and sold to the highest bidder--never having a permanent home for more than a few weeks. Occasionally, they come in as owner surrenders.

The kill pens we pull from have USDA licenses with Mexico and process donkeys for 'ejaio', a Chinese medicinal supplement made from their hide.

Our part in the process is to intervene at the slaughter sales and pull them from these environments so they stay out of the kill pen buyers' hands to have a fresh chance at fate while being re-aligned to find loving and permanent homes.

    What's the adoption process like?

We post current and upcoming animals for adoption on our Facebook page.

If you're interested in a certain animal we ask you to complete an Adoption Interest form to learn a little more about your family, your experience with equines, and your home setup.

We will then invite you to come visit and spend some time with the mini to make sure there is a good connection and match.

We have facilities in Skiatook, OK, and Desert Hills, AZ off Carefree Hwy & I-17. Adoption pickups occur in Morristown, AZ at our partner rescue site, Happy Little Herd. Message us through the Facebook page to schedule.

If you'd like to move forward with adopting we produce a formal Bill of Sale along with a Treatment Plan* document that lists all the treatments that the mini received.

*All our rescues receive vaccines, wormer, and have their feet trimmed before heading to their new home.

    How can you help?

Adopt -- Donkeys make fantastic pets and are loyal farm guardians. They do best with another donkey buddy. Occasionally, they can bond with other livestock or horses but you run the risk of them not bonding and they could get depressed and stop eating. Make sure when you're thinking of adopting you prioritize their happiness and welfare. If you're interested in adopting, please complete our Adoption Interest form.

Volunteer -- Our barn volunteers are very hands-on and need to be self-motivated and responsible. We are in need of volunteers to help clean the pens and work with the donkeys to gentle & halter train them. Volunteers are expected to do a wide variety of things including but not limited to: feed and hay, muck stalls, turn out minis, hand walk minis, and more.

Donate --Any amount of donation or equipment and supplies helps! It takes a village to run our operation. From the bail fees to pull the minis from the kill pens to the transport fees from the sale barns to the quarantine pasture, to the transport from TX to AZ, to the basic comfort and care they need when they arrive to us. Donate hay or treats, sponsor a donkey, or set up a small monthly recurring donation. All donations are welcome and greatly appreciated.
